Children’s Mental Health – Supportive Counseling to Children of Substance Abusers
Our goal is to provide both psycho-educational and psycho-dynamic intervention to children who have parents that are substance abusers and/or alcohol dependant.
Through individual counseling we meet with the children to facilitate their understanding of their parent’s addiction. In addition, through our day program, we offer parenting groups to teach techniques to express frustration, stress and anger without having to resort to bullying, conflict or abusive behavior. Moreover, we also teach the importance of structure in their children’s lives. This group also gives parents the opportunity to meet and interact with other parents that are either facing or faced the same issues. The outcome of this group for parents is that they become positive role models to their children, reduce parent child conflict and reduce stress levels in the home.
